Taking its toll on West Ham’s transfer activity

West Ham United co-owner, David Sullivan, admits the club are still carrying the financial burden of the Carlos Tevez saga which relegated Sheffield United back in 2007, according to Daily Mail reports.

Sullivan admitted West Ham still owe the Blades £10 million in compensation, as Tevez’s winner against Manchester United saved the club from relegation and effectively sent the Yorkshiremen back to the Championship, despite the Argentine being  ineligible to play.

He said: “We have an eight-figure sum still outstanding over the Tevez affair, even though we have been playing it down over the past two years.” (Daily Mail)

Manager, Sam Allardyce has been shrewd in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Jussi Jaaskelainen and George McCartney in the summer transfer window, while Kevin Nolan proved to be an inspirational signing last year and scored the winner in Saturday’s opening day victory over Aston Villa, but Sullivan admits the debt has hindered the Hammers’ spending.

He claimed: “We’ve done some good business and brought in some real quality despite our still-limited resources.

“That amount has to be paid off over the next 12 months, which does take its toll on our transfer activity.”

Newcastle fans react to Aarons exit rumours

Rolando Aarons is a target for West Brom, and Newcastle fans all agree it’s time to dump the skilful 22 year-old.

According to The Chronicle, West Brom are considering a swoop for Aarons, who spent the second half of last season on loan in Italy.

The report says Newcastle are not actively looking to sell the youngster, but will listen to any “tempting” offers.

The young winger recently plead guilty over a violent incident that occurred in a Newcastle bar in 2016, and that incident combined with injuries have hampered his young career.

The 22 year-old speedster looked an extremely exciting prospect when he broke onto the scene in 2014, scoring one and assisting one in a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace.

His loan spell with Hellas Verona wasn’t exactly a glowing success though, failing to find a goal during his short stint in Italy.

THREE reasons why Adnan Januzaj had to feature for Manchester United

Getting eliminated from the FA Cup and sitting in fifth place in the Premier League was not the end of Manchester United fans’ troubles.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Olympiakos and are now looking for at least two goals at Old Trafford to save whatever they can from this season.

The home team became the very first Greek club to beat Manchester United and led to the Scotsman achieving another negative record.

There was one man that could have brought solutions up front tonight: Adnan Januzaj. Here are three reasons why the youngster’s omission was inexcusable.

1) Januzaj’s been the heartbeat of United’s attack so far this season.

2) You can’t trust Tom Cleverley to do anything.

3) By leaving Januzaj out Moyes leaves himself at the mercy of disgruntled United fans.

It’s been a Transfer Window to be proud of for West Ham fans

The transfer window is shutting and as usual a lot of clubs have left the majority of their business to the final hours.

West Ham however got their deals done early and it has been, on the whole, a very impressive transfer window for the Hammers.

It all started with the signing of Mauro Zarate from Velez Sarsfield. Zarate was pretty impressive during his short time in the Premier League previously with Birmingham City. He then went on to have a decent spell at Lazio, and then moved onto Inter Milan where he struggled to get going. On returning to his home country of Argentina with Velez Sarsfield he rediscovered his scoring touch. And now his first few appearances for West Ham have certainly looked promising, even scoring a debut goal against Crystal Palace.

The best early performer of the new signings was next through the door as Cheikhou Kouyate signed from Belgian champions, Anderlecht. The Senegalese international is only 24-years-old and will only grow as a player. An excellent capture for the Hammers.

An Englishmen was next through the Boleyn Ground gates, as Aaron Cresswell joined from Ipswich Town after making the Championship Team of the Year last season. Like Kouyate, Aaron is only 24 and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the Premier League. A signing in the left-back position was certainly a necessity for West Ham and Cresswell may well be the man to fill it.

Chelsea and Spurs legend Gus Poyet’s son was the next signing as Diego left Charlton Athletic. Poyet is only 19 and is certainly one for the future. He was highly regarded as a future star by Charlton fans and has impressed so far in his sporadic appearances for West Ham. His passing range and composure are fantastic for a player in the infancy of his career, due to these attributes he suits a deep playmaker role which is unlikely to be utilised under Sam Allardyce, however, he’s a player for the future and he could well play under a new manager very soon once West Ham move into the Olympic Stadium.

The Hammers splashed the cash on World Cup star Enner Valencia and on paper he is a very exciting prospect indeed. He has little ‘big league’ experience after signing from Mexican club Pachuca and we are yet to see much of the poacher but my initial thoughts are that he doesn’t appear to fit the system that West Ham currently play. It’s a bit suspicious that £12million was spent on a player who doesn’t fit the team’s formation but perhaps Big Sam didn’t have much of a say on this one.

The Hammers also made their first of two loan signings when Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson joined. Arsenal made the shrewd acquisitions of Debuchy and Chambers and therefore no longer needed the promising right-back. I’m personally very pleased with the capture of Jenkinson, but we are yet to see any of the 22-year-old as he arrived injured/unfit – time will tell.

The latest signing was revealed to the West Ham fans before the dismal defeat to Southampton on Saturday with former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song signing on loan from Barcelona.

Mohamed Diame seems to have finally got his big move away from West Ham, but not quite to the top 4 side he was after as Hull have agreed a fee for the 27-year-old. Therefore Alex Song joins Kouyate and Noble as the prime suspects for the centre midfield role. A good signing for sure, but unusual, as Song said he turned down Champions League football opportunities to sign for West Ham because the Hammers are moving into the Olympic Stadium and he wants to play a part in making West Ham a ‘big club’ (although he has only signed on a year-long deal). Could be a genius move – we’ll have to wait and see.

A centre-back is needed and there is likely to be at least one more deadline day signing before 11pm tonight, but that’s the West Ham transfer dealings thus far and in my opinion, fans should be impressed with the club’s business this summer.

Veja os dez jogos mais 'caros' de 2019 para torcedores de clubes de Série A

MatériaMais Notícias

São quase quatro meses de temporada competitiva em 2019, mas a discussão acerca dos valores dos ingressos já está intensa. Stoke fans react to Nathan Jones speculation

[ad_pod ]

Stoke City are currently on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Gary Rowett, who left the club on Tuesday morning.

Rowett was appointed in May following the club’s relegation to the Championship, but things have not gone as planned this term.

Indeed, the Potters are currently 14th in the Championship table, having collected maximum points in just eight of their 26 league fixtures this term.

Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Pl>ymaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…

David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Slavisa Jokanovic are all believed to be in the running, but there now appears to be a new favourite.

Indeed, the odds on Luton Town boss Nathan Jones replacing Rowett have tumbled, with SkyBet placing the 45-year-old as the strong favourite.

Jones has been in charge of Luton since January 2016 and has won more than half of his matches with the Hatters.

The Stoke fans have been on social media reacting to the speculation, and some of the responses can be seen below:

Hafeez, Hales top ICC rankings

Mohammad Hafeez topped the ICC rankings for ODI allrounders after his 232 runs and six wickets in three matches against Zimbabwe, while Alex Hales was named the the No. 1 ranked T20 batsman

ESPNcricinfo staff01-Sep-2013

Mohammad Hafeez made 232 runs and picked up two wickets in three matches against Zimbabwe•Nouman Ahmed

Mohammad Hafeez reclaimed the number one ranking for ODI allrounders after his efforts set up a 2-1 series victory for Pakistan over Zimbabwe, while Alex Hales is at the top of the T20I batting rankings following his 94 against Australia on Saturday.Hafeez struck 232 runs and took two wickets in three ODIs, earning 26 points which helped him leapfrog to the top. He had reached the summit once before, following Pakistan’s tour of India in January. Along with 14 wickets so far this year, Hafeez has accumulated 732 runs at an average of 40.66, which includes two centuries.Hales fell six runs short of becoming the first England batsman to make a T20 century, but the innings helped him receive 65 rating points to displace former incumbent, New Zealand wicketkeeper batsman Brendon McCullum and record his first stint at the No. 1 spot.Hales made his T20I debut against India in August 2011 and was out for a golden duck, but followed up with an unbeaten 62 against West Indies. He has twice been dismissed in the 90s in his short career, with 99 against West Indies in 2011.Pakistan dropped one point despite winning the ODI series, while Zimbabwe’s victory in the first match, their first against Pakistan in 15 years, helped them earn three rating points. Both teams remain at their previous rankings of six, with 101 points and ten, with 55 points respectively. After a 1-1 scoreline, there has not been any disturbance to England and Australia’s places on the T20 rankings either. Though Australia, by virtue of gaining one point, went clear of New Zealand and took sole possession of the No. 7 slot with 103 points. England are nine points ahead of Australia and are ranked No. 6.

SA has produced the best allrounders – Bacher

South Africa is home to more world-class allrounders than any other nation, according to former Test captain and administrator Ali Bacher

South Africa is home to more world-class allrounders than any other nation, according to former Test captain and administrator Ali Bacher. In his new book, Bacher and author David Williams pay tribute to the country’s premier allrounders, who Bacher believes are the stand-outs in their field.”David and I are of the opinion that this country has produced more great allrounders than any other Test-playing nation,” Bacher told ESPNcricinfo ahead of the publication’s launch. “Most other teams only had one great allrounder at a time but South Africa had many.”Bacher made reference to the likes of England when Ian Botham starred for them and Pakistan in the time Imran Khan played and compared that to South Africa’s stocks. “There were two periods when South Africa had four allrounders in the same team. I captained Eddie Barlow, Tiger Lance, Mike Proctor and Trevor Goddard. And then if you look at the team Hansie Cronje led, they had Jacques Kallis, Shaun Pollock, Lance Klusener and Brian McMillan.”In addition to the names mentioned above, Jimmy Sinclair, Aubrey Faulkner, Basil D’Oliveira, Tony Greig and Clive Rice make up the other men the book examines. While Bacher says “Garfield Sobers remains the greatest cricketer of all time,” he hopes to shed light on the talent South Africa has produced. He is particularly proud of the comment Steve Waugh made during an interview with him at Lord’s this year. “Steve Waugh called Jacques Kallis ‘one of the greatest cricketers of all time,’ and that is really a compliment worth sharing,” he said.Although Bacher had personal interactions with 10 of the 13 cricketers, writing the book “told me things I didn’t know about them.” For example, he spent time with Basil d’Oliveira’s family in Cape Town. “They showed me the house where he was born and from which the family were evicted when the Group Areas’ Act came into being. And I also went to the point where he would run at Signal Hill. It was a wonderful day spent with them,” Bacher said.D’Oliveira’s fitness regime was not the only one Bacher took note of. Rice, the only inclusion in the book who did not play Test cricket, was also known for his athleticism. “He was one of the first cricketers to really place an emphasis on physical fitness. After training he would sprint around the field and he always said he just wanted to be the fittest cricket around so when the time came to play Test cricket he would be ready,” Bacher said.Rice never donned the whites for South Africa (he played three ODIs) but many believe he would have been exceptional if he did. “Mike Proctor said of him, ‘He always gave his best shot. If given the opportunity at Test level, he would have been considered one of the best allrounders in history,’ Bacher recalled.Proctor himself called South African provincial matches among “the toughest he played,” according to Bacher, which speaks of the quality of the allrounders the country has produced. Through the work, Bacher would find a common thread running through all the men he featured. “They all have tremendous commitment and passion and they all work hard at their skills,” he said.Bacher does not have an answer for why the number of South Africa’s seam-bowling allrounders has dwindled in recent years but is hopeful more will be discovered soon, because he thinks it can only be to the benefit of the national team. “As a captain, it’s definitely easier when you have allrounders in your side,” he said. “You can effectively be playing with 13 or 14 men on the field. That’s a huge plus.”
