PCB anger at latest investigation

The PCB has expressed its anger at the ICC’s handling of the latest allegations of spot-fixing in the third ODI between England and Pakistan at The Oval

ESPNcricinfo staff18-Sep-2010

The PCB and the ICC have shared moments of unease in the recent past•International Cricket Council

The PCB has said it is perturbed by the allegations of corruption surrounding the third ODI and expressed its regret at the ICC’s handling of the situation, pointing out that it had not been consulted over the latter’s decision to lauch an investigation and only learnt of it through the media. The ICC decided to investigate Friday’s match at The Oval after being tipped off by a newspaper prior to the start that bookmakers were aware of some of the scoring patterns that eventually occurred during the play. As the story emerged through the day and the ICC announced it’s decision to investigate, it became clear that the Pakistan board had not been informed by the ICC; initially the board chairman Ijaz Butt, the captain Shahid Afridi and team manager Yawar Saeed refused to comment on the story because, they said, they had not been updated on the details. Butt flew to Dubai from Delhi on Saturday, though it is unclear whether he has met with the ICC.”The Pakistan Cricket Board is extremely perturbed by the recent allegations of corruption in the third ODI between England and Pakistan,” the statement read.”The PCB regrets the way these allegations have been handled as, being a full member of the ICC, it only came to know through the media that investigations would be conducted by the ICC. The PCB feels the ICC should repose more confidence in its members… and further condemns sensationalizing of these allegations which are harming cricket in general and Pakistan in particular.”The ECB held a special board meeting earlier in the day after which it decided the tour would go on, as no “substantiative evidence” had been provided to it or the Pakistan board. Giles Clarke, the ECB chairman, wrote to the ICC asking for further evidence and the PCB has followed suit. “The ICC has been requested by PCB through its counsel to furnish more details into these allegations.”This isn’t the first time the PCB has disagreed with the ICC sincethe controversy began during the Lord’s Test last month. The ICC’sdecision to suspend Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir – thethree players at the centre of the initial spot-fixing controversy – wascriticised as being hasty with investigations still underway. At a press conference in Lahore, Butt said both theboard and Scotland Yard felt the police investigations should have beencompleted before the ICC began its own inquiry. The two clashed last year when the ICC took the decision tostrip Pakistan of its rights to host the 2011 World Cup in the aftermathof the Lahore terror attacks and the PCB reacted by sending a legalnotice. The dispute was ultimately resolved.

Abel relaciona Léo e Rodolfo, deixa Airton fora, mas esconde time do Flu

-Não vou dar o time.

Série A, Série B…

Nós estudamos bastante o time deles.

Postura do time

Convite do Atlético-MG

Celtic can amend Toney mistake with Semenyo

Reported Celtic transfer target Antoine Semenyo has dropped an update on a potential summer switch.

What’s been said?

In recent comments cited by the Daily Record, the Bristol City centre-forward, who is believed to have been scouted by Celtic’s Craig Strachan earlier this month, revealed that, despite the increasing interest in his services, he is in no rush to seal a move away from Ashton Gate this summer.

Speaking about his future, the 22-year-old said: “It has always been a dream of mine from when I was young [to move to a big club]. But whether it comes now or in a few years, I’m not in any kind of a rush. I just want to keep working on my game so that if I do ever get to the top then hopefully there’ll be no problems.”

Postecoglou can amend Toney mistake with Semenyo

Considering just how close Celtic were to sealing the signing of then-Peterborough United centre-forward Ivan Toney in the summer of 2020, it would appear as if Ange Postecoglou now has the perfect opportunity to amend the Bhoys’ mistake in missing out on a deal for the 25-year-old hitman – by landing Semenyo this summer.

Indeed, it was reported that Celtic had gone as far as to agree personal terms with the Posh striker, with the club’s chairman, Barry Fry, claiming that Toney was so eager to secure a switch to the Hoops that he would have walked to Celtic Park to finalise the deal.

However, after the English side rejected Celtic’s £5m offer for the striker, Peterborough subsequently accepted Brentford’s £6.5m – rising to £10m with add-ons – bid for the centre-forward, with the 25-year-old going on to pen a five-year deal with the Bees.

The following season, Celtic’s decision not to match Brentford’s offer for the Northampton born target-man immediately proved a costly one, with Toney bagging an astonishing 33 goals and providing ten assists over 48 Championship appearances on the way to firing his side to the Premier League, while Celtic were blown out of the water in the Premiership title race by their most fierce of rivals.

And, having so far bagged six goals and registered two assists over his 21 Premier League outings this season, it has been reported that Brentford will be demanding a figure in the region of £35m, should any potential suitor wish to purchase the 25-year-old – with West Ham and Chelsea both having been linked.

As such, considering the fact that the “dangerous” – in the words of Phil Parkinson – Semenyo is enjoying a similar Championship campaign to that of Toney last time out, with the £1.08m-rated striker having bagged six goals, registered eight assists and created five big chances over his 20 league outings, it would appear an extremely wise for Postecoglou to simply stump up the fee required to land the 22-year-old this summer – or else Celtic could be rueing their indecision in the transfer market once again next year.

Tamim, Shafiul help Bangladesh square series

After a disappointing show in the first game, Bangladesh’s bowlers hit back with a disciplined performance to restrict Ireland to 189 and set up a six-wicket win to draw the series 1-1 at Stormont

After a disappointing show in the first game, Bangladesh’s bowlers hit back with a disciplined performance to restrict Ireland to 189 and set up a six-wicket win to draw the series 1-1 at Stormont. Bangladesh held the upper hand from the beginning, nipping out early wickets in overcast conditions and preventing Ireland from recovering to a challenging score. Tamim Iqbal led the chase with a half-century and his presence ensured a safe passage to the target.Morning rain forced the game to be reduced to 46 overs, but surprisingly, Ireland opted to bat. The captain William Porterfield was soon made to regret that decision as he departed in the fifth over, slashing Mashrafe Mortaza to Jahurul Islam at backward point. Shafiul Islam struck the next over when he sent back the other opener, Paul Stirling, for 6 edging a wide delivery.A flurry of boundaries by Niall O’Brien off Shafiul calmed the nerves for the hosts but the excitement was shortlived as Alex Cusack, struggling at the crease, nicked Shafiul to Mushfiqur. Ireland couldn’t break free, with the spinners bowling in tandem, and they were further dented when the fluent Niall was trapped lbw by Abdur Razzak. At 62 for 5, Ireland were desperate for a big partnership and that’s when Gary Wilson showed some initiative. He chipped down the track to Razzak and launched the ball to long-on, breaking a boundary drought that lasted 12 overs. He and Andrew White added 44 for the fifth wicket before White was trapped lbw by the third member of the left-arm spin trio, Faisal Hossain.John Mooney and Wilson cranked up the pace with some innovative boundaries against the spinners. Mooney also attacked Shafiul, hitting two fours and a straight six – the only one of the innings – in one over. Wilson had earlier reached his fifty, with a single to long-off, but he fell soon after, caught at short third man. His 60 came off 64 balls and included four boundaries.A late double-strike by Shafiul prevented Ireland from scoring over 200 and he finished with 4 for 59 to set up a chase which was well within Bangladesh’s reach. He went on to pick up the Man-of-the-Match award.Ireland had some success early on when Trent Johnston had Imrul Kayes edging to second slip in the sixth over. Tamim dumped Stirling for a big hit down the ground and his partner Junaid Siddique attempted a similar shot but couldn’t clear Johnston at deep midwicket, off Kevin O’Brien. The bowling change, in the 11th over, halted a 31-run stand.Jahurul Islam then joined Tamim as the pair scripted the most productive stand of the match, one that put the visitors firmly on course. Tamim brought up his fifty with a glance for four to third man off Alex Cusack. Though the boundaries were occasional, the pair kept rotating the strike, not playing out any maidens. Jahurul Islam moved patiently to 34, but perished while trying to pull Andrew White, top edging to short third man. The pair had added 84 for the third wicket.Shakib Al Hasan sought to finish things early with fluent boundaries through the leg side. Tamim cracked Johnston over mid-off but fell spooning a catch to Mooney at cover. The opener had scored a fluent 74 off 91 balls with six fours and a six. Bangladesh needed just 18 off 13 overs when he departed, and Shakib and Mushfiqur sealed the game with plenty of overs to spare.Bangladesh now head to Scotland to play two one-off ODIs against Scotland and Netherlands in Glasgow.

Spurs plotting out-of-window Barker move

According to Football Insider journalist Wayne Veysey, Tottenham Hotspur are in a race with Leicester City to sign non-league striker sensation Fin Barker.

The Lowdown: Rising star…

The 18-year-old has apparently caught the eye of top tier scouts up and down the country for his sensational form at current club Mickleover FC in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Chiefs from English top flight clubs have been alerted to Barker’s potential as well as Championship sides, with Nottingham Forest among those taking a firm interest.

Both Premier League and clubs from the EFL are able to sign anyone from outside the professional leagues at any time of year, even beyond a conventional transfer window.

The Latest: Tottenham plotting move…

According to Veysey and Football Insider, Spurs and Leicester are now ‘plotting moves’ ahead of the summer for Barker.

As well as this, both sides are tipped as possible favourites to sign the prolific striker given they can apparently make an offer ‘beyond the level’ of most Premier League sides.

The Verdict: Intriguing update…

It appears Spurs’ scouts are hard at work behind-the-scenes again as they unearth more potentially fruitful talent for the growing Hotspur Way group of exciting youngsters.

Barker could certainly come as one of them if Tottenham sign him outside of January, especially going by his 18-goal haul for Mickleover this season.

Those strikes come after only just making his debut in October, perhaps evidence of his sky high potential.
