West Ham youngster Dan Kemp makes loan plea

Dan Kemp has pleaded with West Ham United to let him head out on loan, as reported by Football Insider.

What’s the story?

It has been suggested that the 21-year-old wants a move away from the club for the second half of the campaign, feeling that it could help to ignite his career.

West Ham are now said to be looking for League Two clubs that he could temporarily join, with the winger having rejected offers to play for Non-League clubs.

The Hammers are unsure about whether to let him leave, though do feel that he could benefit from playing against senior defenders from the lower leagues on a regular basis.

This could see him follow in the footsteps of Nathan Holland and Conor Coventry, who have temporarily joined Oxford United and Lincoln City respectively.

A needed step

Kemp is right to suggest that he could benefit from a move into the Football League, as he has already shown that he is a quality player at Premier League 2 level.

This campaign, he has eight goals and four assists from 14 appearances, which includes an assist in the U23s’ most recent game, a 3-3 draw against Reading.

He was also nominated for PL2 Player of the Month in August, as reported on the official Premier League website.

As well as that, the youngster has shown that he can compete with defences from the lower leagues when he recorded a brace in the 4-3 EFL Trophy loss against Cheltenham Town.

Kemp is still yet to make a first-team appearance for West Ham, with his sole appearance on the bench coming during a 2-1 win against Burnley in 2017.

This indicates that he is unlikely to get many opportunities in the first-team this season – especially with the Hammers sitting one point above the relegation zone – so a loan move certainly makes sense.

Meanwhile, West Ham need to ensure one of their key men doesn’t enter a toxic cycle.

Leicester target Ryan Bertrand wouldn’t fit Rodgers’ philosophy

According to The Daily Mail, Leicester are bracing themselves for the exit of Ben Chilwell and see Ryan Bertrand as a potential replacement.

However, if the Saints man arrives at the King Power, it would go away from one of Brendan Rodgers’ key philosophies.

What’s the word?

Sportsmail claim they first reported Chelsea’s intrigue in Chilwell back in October but with fresh interest, Leicester are now preparing to lose him in the summer.

With that in mind, they’re reportedly lining up Bertrand as his successor at left-back. No potential fee has been mentioned but the 30-year-old is valued at £11.7m according to Transfermarkt.

Any move could see the Saints defender and Rodgers reunited for a third time. Bertrand first played under the Leicester boss in Chelsea’s academy before also getting the chance to play for him at Reading.

Philosophy abandoned

There would be a hint of irony if the Foxes brought in a defender that took part in Southampton’s 9-0 defeat against Leicester earlier in the current season. However, that isn’t the main reason why a move would be bizarre.

Rodgers has prided himself on developing young players and building squads around individuals who have room to grow within the game.

The average age of Leicester’s squad is currently just 26.7, showing that he has a plethora of options at his disposal just about to reach the prime of their careers.

In a prior interview with the FA about Rodgers’ philosophy, he had the following to say about nurturing football’s next generation: “I started on a journey to try and make young players feel important and give them confidence to deal with the football.”

This is something that has followed the former Celtic manager throughout his career, favouring younger signings. In almost three years with the Hoops, he signed just one player over the age of 30. At Liverpool however, that never happened while the same can be said for a spell with Swansea City.

How much do you remember about football in 2019? Our quiz will test your knowledge…

Since arriving at Leicester, he’s built his squad around young and promising individuals like James Maddison, Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira and Youri Tielemans. All yet to really reach their prime, Chilwell has been another key component of Leicester’s exciting and refreshing side.

A move for a 30-year-old left-back, therefore, fails to make much sense, especially if a deal isn’t concluded until the summer. Bertrand has clear pedigree, being capped by England and winning the Champions League but he doesn’t suit Rodgers’ philosophy.

Not only that, but he fails to fit into the foundations being built at the King Power. Leicester must think again if they have desires of replacing a 23-year-old with a player heading towards the back end of their career.

Liverpool join the race to sign Boubakary Soumare

According to Le10Sport, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Boubakary Soumare.

What’s the story?

The Lille midfielder has been linked with a move during the past few weeks, with Chelsea and Tottenham (L’Equipe via Sport Witness) both interested. Meanwhile, Manchester United have sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old in action.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

However, this latest report states that Liverpool are now looking at bringing him to Anfield. It is unknown, though, whether this would be now or during the summer.

The man for all roles

Reds fans may have seen the France U21 international in action against Chelsea in the Champions League this season at Stamford Bridge. Les Dogues were unable to get anything out of the game but were only defeated 2-1, and Soumare stood out. He managed five dribbles during that clash, which was the second-highest number amongst his teammates, whilst he also amassed four interceptions and four clearances.

Soumare has been compared to Paul Pogba and was also targeted by Manchester City in 2018 as they looked for a long-term Yaya Toure replacement. At his current age, he is still raw – he has a WhoScored rating of just 6.41 so far this term in Ligue 1, for example – but his 90.2% passing accuracy and 1.1 dribbles per match indicate that he is more than just a deep-lying midfielder.

The comparisons with Pogba are still to be fulfilled, but the physical attributes and ability are there. Now, he just needs to progress into the player so many think he can become. Lille manager Christopher Galtier believes that he is playing at just 40% of his potential right now. With Jurgen Klopp as his boss, he may progress at a far faster rate. Some very good midfielders have improved under the 52-year-old – just look at Jordan Henderson, who was recently named England Men’s Player of the Year and is a Champions League-winning captain.

At 29, it remains to be seen how long the former Sunderland man has at the top of the game, but here is a midfielder who would be a perfect replacement. Like Henderson, Soumare has the ability to play both in defensive midfield and further forward. Perhaps his defensive ability, the area where he needs the most work, would be more suited to a central midfield position instead of a defensive one. With Fabinho as the anchor behind him, his full potential could be unleashed. So far this season, Soumare has made 1.1 tackles per match in the French top-flight – a record that can be improved upon.

With the likes of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott having joined recently, Klopp is clearly planning for the future. Soumare’s arrival – which could be as much as £50m, as touted in December – would be the latest example of that.

Sheffield Wednesday fans hail Fernando Forestieri’s impact against Millwall

Sheffield Wednesday’s dire run in the Championship continued on Saturday afternoon as the Owls played out a stalemate at Hillsborough.

The south Yorkshire side have only won one of their last seven league matches as they drew 0-0 against Millwall; a fourth point gained from a possible 21.

Despite finding themselves in a rut as of late, some members of the Owls faithful believe they have seen the man that can turn their fortunes around following a second-half cameo at the weekend.

Fernando Forestieri made his long-awaited comeback from injury after being introduced in the 56th minute for Kadeem Harris, and even though he wasn’t able to find the net, he clearly made an impact going by the following reaction…

“Looked dangerous” and “offered more energy” were two reviews of his cameo whilst another claimed the 30-year-old gave the side a bit of spark they desperately needed.

Per SofaScore, Forestieri had three shots at goal, recorded one successful dribble and two key passes in just 34 minutes of action, and as one supporter eluded to, he had more touches of the ball than both Adam Reach and Kadeem Harris in less time on the pitch.

It has led to bold claims that the Argentinian is not only the best player at the club but also the best player in the league…

One fan said Forestieri showed in 20 minutes exactly why there’s no one better than him in the Wednesday squad while another added that on his day, he was easily the best in the division as he’s a game-changer.

Others added that he needed to start more matches and gain more minutes with a further member of the Hillsborough faithful going as far as suggesting that he should be given a new contract as his current deal is set to expire in the summer.

Sunderland’s Mark McNulty could be on his way out

Sunderland’s transfer window has been heavily built around their striker positions. The Black Cats have signed Kyle Lafferty on loan, while they’re also reportedly looking at Kevin van Veen and there still may be a move away from the Stadium of Light for Will Grigg.[ad_pod ]However, there is another transfer story regarding a Sunderland striker emerging today as it has been reported on Twitter that Marc McNulty will be on his way out of the club before the deadline.

Sunderland Echo journalist Marc Donnelly confirmed that Hibs are the most likely destination for the attacker, but there are also other clubs interested in his services.

It remains to be seen where McNulty will end up at the end of the month, but it’s hard to say that the Scot will be missed at the Stadium of Light as he’s played just 670 league minutes this term.

West Ham could be at risk of undoing Dmitri Halajko’s positive work

West Ham United U23s have been very impressive this campaign, drawing three of their 16 Premier League 2 games and winning the rest.

To have a record like this shows the positive impact that Dmitri Halajko has had since he joined West Ham during the summer of 2019.

There are players such as Nathan Holland, Conor Coventry and Dan Kemp who have impressed enough to take the next step in their development, securing loan moves to Oxford United, Lincoln City and Stevenage respectively.

While a temporary exit can be seen as a positive for the club, with players taking the step up from youth football, having talented players leave permanently is surely a negative for them.

That was the case with Joe Powell in January, as the 21-year-old joined Burton Albion, having previously been a key man for the U23s.

He scored his first goal for the League One outfit in his second game, netting the opener in a 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon with a left-footed effort.

That departure has also been followed up by Kai Corbett joining Manchester United’s youth setup, with ExWHUemployee stating why he left, explaining: “He had a fall out with one of the coaches and it was felt by some he wasn’t good enough to make it.”

Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?

The 18-year-old scored against Newport County in the 5-4 EFL Trophy win, while his Man United debut goal, against Blackburn Rovers, saw his U18 Premier League tally go to four goals and one assist from 11 games.

The Athletic also added some context to the teenager’s pedigree at youth level: “Corbett has scored almost 150 goals in three seasons for West Ham at youth level and is recognised as one of the top players in their under-18 set-up.”

Then there is Anthony Scully’s permanent move to Lincoln City, which seems baffling from West Ham’s point of view.

In 16 appearances across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy this season, he has managed a highly impressive 14 goals and five assists, while he was also named PL2 Player of the Month for September.

All of this even saw him get his first call up to the Republic of Ireland U21s squad, yet he was allowed to leave the Hammers without having had a single first-team opportunity or loan.

West Ham have now lost three promising prospects in a short period of time, if this type of trend continues over time then it’s pretty evident that they’re at risk of undoing the positive work Halajko has done so far.

Meanwhile, a West Ham academy graduate had a shocker in a game that had Jarrod Bowen on the mind.

Sheffield Wednesday fans slam owner Dejphon Chansiri as poor run continues

Sheffield Wednesday fans have unleashed on their owner Dejphon Chansiri after the Owls slump in league form continued on Wednesday night.

Garry Monk’s side were defeated 1-0 by Luton Town at Kenilworth Road, meaning they have now just won once in their last nine outings.

Hatters forward James Collins missed a penalty just 14 seconds into the match before making amends in the 23rd minute, slotting past Cameron Dawson after Harry Cornick capitalised on a loose pass.

But surprisingly fans took aim at someone off the field, rather than on it.

Here’s what they have been saying…

Supporters acknowledged that their club was in a huge rut, one even called it a “crisis” before going onto describe the Thai businessman as “incompetent” and “arrogant.”

Whilst another claimed that he hasn’t got a clue and he was done with people defending him.

Watch Sheffield Wednesday Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

It’s clear to see that some feel the owner is the root cause of their issues as the club enter a third decade without top-flight football.

Others simply want Chansiri to sell up and leave Hillsborough as soon as possible.

The Owls’ recruitment was brandished a joke with reference to former players like Almen Abdi and Joost van Aken before going on to list a range of problems that have stemmed from his control, such as ticket prices and splashing out on silly wage demands.

There was even time for a throwback to ex-owner Milan Mandaric as one member of the Wednesday faithful claimed the only time the club was properly run was under his tenure.

Crystal Palace: Samatta shows why he was worth gambling on

In the January transfer window, Crystal Palace were linked with a move for KRC Genk forward Mbwana Samatta, a man who scored 32 goals last season and also netted at Anfield against Liverpool this term.

However, The Evening Standard revealed that the south Londoners decided to pull out of the running for the Tanzania international, before he eventually joined Aston Villa in a deal worth just £8.5m.

Since he made the switch to Villa Park, the 27-year-old’s early form suggests he would’ve fared quite well for Roy Hodgson.

Samatta scored on his Premier League debut with a towering header against Bournemouth, a game in which he also made two key passes and had three shots on goal, while winning a huge five aerial duels in total.

Unfortunately, his strike couldn’t get Dean Smith’s side a result, and the Tanzanian also delivered a decent showing against Tottenham despite watching his teammates come away with nothing once again after Heung-min Son’s late winner.

Against Jose Mourinho’s men, Samatta again recorded two key passes and also won three aerial duels this time, while again having three shots but registering two dribbles on this occasion.

Across those two games, he has played 173 minutes in total, tallying up six shots, four key passes, eight successful aerial duels and a goal – he averages a shot every 28.8 minutes.

Seeing as Hodgson’s men have netted the fewest goals in the Premier League this season with 23 goals in 26 outings, it feels like they could’ve done with someone like Samatta who clearly isn’t afraid to have a go at scoring.

The Eagles have also had the fewest shots on target in England’s top-flight this term with 79 attempts on goal, so they are clearly shy of taking efforts on goal.

There is still a long way to go for Samatta in English football and he still has a job on his hands to keep the Villans in the Premier League, but the early signs from his first two appearances suggest that he would’ve been worth a gamble from Palace’s Sporting Director Dougie Freedman, especially for such a low price.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson was the unsung hero at Anfield

Just like how several footballing stars have potentially missed out on Ballon d’Or awards due to being in the same generation as both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, there is a real argument to be made that perhaps Andy Robertson is slightly less appreciated due to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s presence.

The Liverpool duo have been some of the standout performers for the Reds over these past couple of history-making seasons at Anfield. Last season, Alexander-Arnold and Robertson combined for a whopping 29 assists as the Reds marched to a Champions League title. This campaign has seen the former provide 14 assists, whilst the latter has managed seven as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to get their hands on the Premier League trophy.

And on Monday night, it was Alexander-Arnold who was the man receiving all the plaudits, with the pundits in the Sky Sports studio waxing lyrical about his crossing. Understandably so too, with the England international setting up two of Liverpool’s goals with his pin-point delivery.

But whilst the talk was about the local hero, Robertson was arguably the unsung hero on the night, and is deserving of similar praise. As per Sofascore, he made four tackles, two clearances and one interception, all of which were more than what Alexander-Arnold managed (three, one and zero respectively).

Can you remember how much each of these transfer icons cost? Only experts will get 100% on our quiz…

And whilst defensively Robertson showed his prowess, he was just as effective going forward. His total of six key passes were the same as his partner in crime, whilst he also provided three accurate crosses and two long balls. The Scotland international perhaps would have received more credit had his teammates shown a bit more composure and efficiency when it came to his deliveries rather than Alexander-Arnold’s.

On the face of it, it will be the Liverpool full-back who goes home as the talk of the town. But nobody should forget Robertson’s just as important contributions in the Reds’ turnaround on Monday night.

Meanwhile, this Liverpool man must impress following Jurgen Klopp’s confirmation of player’s setback.

Crystal Palace: Van Aanholt justified Hodgson’s bold call

Upon Patrick van Aanholt’s return to full fitness, Roy Hodgson immediately dropped Jairo Riedewald – a man who had performed well in the left-back’s absence having previously been a bit-part player.

The former Ajax man failed to make a Premier League appearance under Hodgson last season, but was thrown in at the deep end when Van Aanholt succumbed to injury.

In his few outings, Riedewald made a stunning 87th minute block against West Ham which helped Crystal Palace go on to score a late winner – his performances against Arsenal and Norwich also drew praise from some supporters on Twitter.

Furthermore, the Netherlands international also won the club’s Player of the Month award for January.

As a result, we outlined Hodgson’s decision to drop him as harsh, unjust and cruel – however, Van Aanholt justified his manager’s call with his display against Newcastle.

The 29-year-old scored the only goal of the game with a stunning freekick, wrong-footing Martin Dubravka with a powerful effort aimed at the Slovakian’s side of the net.

Aside from that strike, the former Chelsea man was in stunning form throughout the match.

He attempted eight crosses, with five of them turning into accurate deliveries, while also taking two shots at goal.

Additionally, Van Aanholt registered a huge six key passes, four more than any other player on the pitch managed to make – the Dutchman also had 76 touches, which was more than any other Crystal Palace player took.

It was a match-winning display from the Eagles’ No.3 in the end, as it was his goal that helped the south Londoners take all three points.

Riedewald’s exclusion as soon as Van Aanholt returned seemed harsh at the time, given how well he had been playing.
