Liverpool should go all out for Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window

Liverpool could be set for another transfer window of lavish spending in the summer.

The Reds are currently fighting both Manchester City and Tottenham for the Premier League title but also performed exceptionally off the field last year. Their Champions League final run pumped enormous amounts of cash into the club leading to Liverpool posting record amounts of profits. This means that Jurgen Klopp is surely likely to be backed significantly in the upcoming transfer window to strengthen his squad even further.

One area the German will definitely look to strengthen is attack. Both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge are widely expected to leave the club after falling out of favour in recent weeks. That would leave only Rhian Brewster to provide any sort of competition to Roberto Firmino and the youngster remains untested at the highest level.

One man Klopp could look to sign is Juventus superstar – Paulo Dybala. Valued at £99m by Transfermarkt, the Argentine has blossomed into one of the world’s finest forwards since swapping Palermo for Turin back in 2015. Dybala has consistently been one of the Serie A’s top performers and would be an excellent fit in the current Liverpool side.

The Argentina international is capable of playing both as the central striker or as a number ten – roles that Firmino has been rotated in this season. Dybala is a lethal finisher, but has scored just eight goals in all competitions following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Dybala’s role has evolved as he is now the creative force for Juve. His arrival would allow Klopp to move Mohamed Salah back to the right wing and keep teams guessing as to who would lead the line.

Regardless of whether they lift the title this season, their chances would be significantly boosted next year if they broke the bank to lure Dybala to Anfield.

Charlton fans full of praise for Naby Sarr as defender takes to Twitter post-match

Charlton emerged 2-1 victors over Portsmouth in what could turn out to be a pivotal win in the push for promotion if the Addicks can remain in the coveted play-off spots come the end of the season.

Much has been made of whether Lee Bowyer’s side will be able to secure a return to the Championship without Karlan Grant’s goals – the striker left for Huddersfield in January – but solidity at the back is equally as important.

The south-east London outfit haven’t conceded more than one goal in a game since the new year and this impressive defensive record will be crucial if they can keep it up.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

Naby Sarr has been a huge part of that – the Frenchman was immense again alongside Patrick Bauer again on Saturday and Charlton fans on Twitter were full of praise for the 25-year-old, who took to social media to congratulate the team for a job well done.

Newcastle fans react as Schar wins goal of the month

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Newcastle fans have been reacting to a much-deserved accolade for Fabian Schar, who was crowned the goal of the month winner on BBC’s Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night.

Much has been made of Newcastle’s stingy approach to the transfer market under the guidance of Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley, but while the pair have infuriated fans with their lack of spending, some of their purchases have actually been very impressive.

Salomon Rondon has been a huge hit since joining on loan, Martin Dubravka was an absolute bargain, and perhaps more impressive than any of the others Schar looks like the steal of the century.

Bielsa gives his Leeds players the highest praise possible

[ad_pod ]

The prospect of playing Premier League football next season is becoming a more and more realistic possibility every single week for Leeds United at the moment.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently in the thick of the Championship title race, and have been in the mix for promotion all season. On top of that, the Whites have also been regularly producing scintillating football throughout the campaign.

Are fans being priced out of the Championship as well as the Premier League? The angry Bolton fan in the video below certainly believes so…

The Argentine coach deserves plenty of credit for the dramatic changes and improvements he’s instigated at Elland Road. Now, inevitably, speculation is turning to how his side might cope in the top flight. Bielsa himself has given his verdict on this.

What he said

In his press conference on Monday, as quoted by Leeds Live, the manager was asked if his current squad are capable of making the step up to the Premier League.

Bielsa said: “I haven’t analysed the Premier League so I’m not ready to make this kind of comparison now. But I can tell you any player that plays for Leeds now, they could play without any problems in the two European teams that I trained for some time, Marseille and Bilbao. I can make this comparison because I know both teams.”

A huge vote of confidence

This is a huge compliment for Bielsa to pay his squad. Athletic Bilbao and Marseille were in La Liga and Ligue 1, respectively, when he was in charge. When he was at the helm of the French club, Bielsa had the likes of Benjamin Mendy, Dimitri Payet, and Michy Batshuayi at his disposal.

These comments from the head coach ought to give the Leeds squad a massive confidence boost, which fans will hope can give them a lift heading into the all important Championship run in.

Liverpool fans are delighted with Oxlade-Chamberlain news

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will make his long-awaited return from injury in the club’s Under-23 fixture on Friday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not turned out for the Reds since suffering a severe knee injury in the Champions League semi-finals against Roma last April.

The England international has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks, though, and will feature against Derby County’s Under-23 side at the end of this week.

The news is huge for both the player and the club, with the midfielder making serious progress under Klopp before picking up the long-term injury.

The Liverpool fans have been on social media offering their views on the situation.

And it would be fair to say that they are absolutely delighted.

According to Liverpool’s official website, Oxlade-Chamberlain will play 45 minutes of the clash and a number will be looking on to see how his return goes.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Steven Gerrard should be keeping tabs on Will Vaulks for Rangers in the summer

Rangers kept the pressure on league leaders Celtic with a massive 5-0 win over Hamilton Academical at the weekend.

The Gers netted four goals in the first half with Ryan Jack, Jermain Defoe, Scott Arfield and James Tavernier all getting on the scoresheet. Their dominance continued in the second half with Hamilton unable to trouble the Rangers defence. After leaving the bench, Kyle Lafferty netted with just two minutes remaining to keep the pressure on their rivals at the top of the table.

It would take a miracle to close the gap on the Hoops following their remarkable run of form in 2019. With Celtic dropping out of the Europa League, further emphasis will be on maintaining their league position. Regardless of whether they catch the Hoops, Steven Gerrard can start planning for another assault next season.

One man who could help them on their way is Rotherham dynamo – Will Vaulks. Valued at just £675k by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old is no stranger to life in Scotland having joined his current employers from Falkirk in 2016. Vaulks has developed into a key player in the Championship and is enjoying his finest season to date.

The midfielder has made 33 appearances in the Championship, chipping in with an impressive five goals and four assists for his team-mates. Not only has Vaulks excelled going forward, he has added a valuable layer of protection to the Rotherham back four. Averaging an impressive 2.4 tackles and 1.8 interceptions per game, the Englishman would install some real steel into the Rangers midfield in the summer. Remarkably, Vaulks has won 4.4 aerial duels on average meaning the physicality of the SPFL should be no issue (WhoScored).

With his contract expiring in the summer, Rangers should grab themselves a bargain.

Denzel Dumfries would be an excellent successor for Coleman at Everton in the summer

Everton’s squad should be be set for another overhaul during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Marco Silva is surely fighting for his future following a dismal run of form in the Premier League that has left the Toffees adrift of the European places. The Portuguese was appointed in the summer and his arrival prompted a sense of optimism on Merseyside. However, the former Watford boss needs a strong end to the campaign to avoid being given the axe.

Owner Farhad Moshiri could be forced into another managerial change to keep the Blues competing for Europe yet again. New director of football Marcel Brands enjoyed plenty of success in his first transfer window at the club and will be relied upon again. The Dutchman could look to find a new right-back with Seamus Coleman failing to impress throughout the current campaign.

Brands should return to former club PSV Eindhoven to land Denzel Dumfries in the summer. Valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old arrived at the club last July, joining from Heerenveen for just £5m. The defender has made an instant impact at his new employers and has been ever-present for the side during his 30 appearances so far.

Similar to Coleman in his earlier years, Dumfries has proven to be a potent attacking threat from the back, helping his side’s cause with three goals and three assists in the Eredivisie. However, the youngster doesn’t neglect his defensive duties, winning 2.1 tackles as well as averaging 1.4 interceptions per game. Dumfries should have no issues adapting to the physicality of the Premier League as he has won an incredible three aerial duels per game so far this season (WhoScored).

Dumfries is still developing and improving – Brands should do all he can to lure the Netherlands international to Goodison.

Charlie Nicholas compares Timothy Weah to Nicolas Anelka in glowing verdict

[ad_pod ]

Celtic moved into the transfer market to sign Timothy Weah on loan last month and the 18-year-old has wasted no time in making an impression in Scotland, with Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas clearly impressed with what he has seen.

What’s the word?

That Weah was on the books of a potential Champions League winner before he joined the Hoops naturally gave supporters reason to believe he could be a fantastic addition to the squad.

The exciting teenager has vindicated the pre-signing expectation with a handful of positive performances, scoring three goals in the process.

Both Weah’s and Oliver Burke’s performances have attracted plenty of interest in the media thus far, but it is the PSG loanee who has really caught the eye of Nicholas.

Indeed, he has delivered his verdict on Weah’s times at Celtic Park thus far and drew parallels between him and the former Premier League goal machine Nicolas Anelka, per Sky Sports.

“He reminds me of when Nicholas Anelka first came into the Arsenal side – the speed and desire to get in with the markers, he reminds me a bit of that.

“Anelka was a better player but the confidence he will get from Celtic having so much of the ball as well as the support.”

Potential replacement for Moussa Dembele?

The praise Weah has received from Nicolas is no surprise after the start he has enjoyed. Anelka enjoyed an illustrious career in top level European football, playing for the likes of Arsenal, Juventus, Real Madrid and Chelsea, as well as scoring 126 Premier League goals.

As Nicholas has alluded to, it would be premature to tip him to emulate a player of Anelka’s enormous quality. However, there are certainly signs from the early openings of his Celtic career to suggest that he could be a worthy replacement for Moussa Dembele.

The Bhoys have managed to temporarily fill the void left by his departure with the signings of Burke and Weah, but Rodgers cannot continue to rely on Odsonne Edouard next season without concluding a permanent striker deal.

In many respects Weah and Burke are undergoing an audition for the role of Demebele’s successor, although the latter is more naturally suited to an attacking midfield or wide role.

With that said, the USA international could well convince Celtic’s hierarchy to fork out for his signature in the summer if he continues to perform in the same eye-catching vein during the remainder of his temporary spell.
