Everton’s in-demand midfield star Joe Williams looks like one to watch

[ad_pod ]This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…A good old fashioned pre-season friendly is always a good way for a young star to catch the manager’s eye, whilst the majority of the senior stars make their way back to action in drips and drabs after international commitments and what not.On that note, Everton youngster Joe Williams took his chance with both hands in the Toffees’ friendly against Kariobangi Sharks. On a day where Marco Silva’s side somewhat embarrassed themselves against the Kenyan Premier League side, Williams made sure he was noticed.Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…A humiliating moment saw the Merseysiders go a goal down, but Williams’ excellent low free-kick under the wall caught the keeper off guard as it nestled into the net.

You can see why some clubs have been lodging bids for the 22-year-old.

The 5 foot 10 midfielder has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, with unnamed Bundesliga sides and Championship outfits bidding for his services.

Silva was keen to take a look at Williams and wanted to take him on the pre-season training camp in Austria last summer, but a knee injury meant that the former captain of the Under-23s was sidelined instead.

Williams has been with Everton since the age of seven, and at the age of 22 you would feel that he is running out of time to impress. To add some context, Richarlison is also 22 years of age, and look where he’s at.

However, his excellent display in the 4-3 loss to Kariobangi Sharks on penalties should mean that he is a player to keep an eye on for Silva and for the Everton supporters.

He clearly has something about him given the amount of interest in his talents this summer.

Perhaps after seeing how Borussia Dortmund have made another young English star in Jadon Sancho a £90m-rated England international, the Toffees would be wise to stick a buy-back clause in any deal they agree to for Williams.

Just in case.

What a joke: Leeds fans fume at reported Jack Clarke agreement

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a swoop for Leeds United teenager Jack Clarke.

Indeed, Nixon has claimed that Spurs will pay an initial £8.5m for the 18-year-old but the deal could ultimately rise to around £13m with various add-ons.

Clarke scored twice and registered two assists in 24 Championship appearances for the Whites during the 2018-19 campaign.

And it would be fair to say that the Leeds fans are not best pleased with the terms which are said to be in place.

Many feel that the initial figure is nowhere near enough when considering Clarke’s talent.

The attacker showed potential in the second tier last season but it remains to be seen whether he is capable of becoming an established Premier League player in the future.

The Leeds supporters, however, are really not happy with the reported agreement.

Southampton fans clear on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s next transfer priority

[ad_pod ]

Southampton fans on Twitter are clear on what manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s next transfer priority must be following the 1-1 pre-season draw with SCR Altach in Austria on Sunday.

The south coast outfit’s first friendly fixture since the players returned from the summer break was shown live on the club’s official YouTube channel, which allowed the St Mary’s faithful the perfect opportunity to watch their team in action.

Summer signing Che Adams got off to the perfect start by finding the net within two minutes of his first appearance for Saints, but there is no doubt that they still appeared defensively suspect at times – their opponents’ goal a fine example.

Maya Yoshida partnered Jannik Vestergaard at the heart of the back four in the first half, before they were replaced by Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek in the second 45 minutes.

However, some Southampton supporters on the popular social media platform were obviously not impressed with what they saw from the quartet, and have called for action.

Southampton’s new man Moussa Djenepo divides opinion amongst fans in the video below…

Given the team conceded 65 goals in their 38 Premier League matches last term, it is hardly a surprise that fans want a new face in the backline.

While one individual said Saints “desperately need a commanding CB”, another pleaded with the club to “just buy a decent centre-back, please”.

Southampton fans react to potentially losing another star to Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to voice their opinions over reports from TEAMtalk which say Arsenal and Liverpool have both made enquiries for Matt Targett, with 90min also repoting on the latter’s interest.

Targett, 23, played 16 times in the Premier League for Saints last year where he provided one goal and three assists.

However, the Englishman is still largely Ralph Hasenhuttl’s second choice left-back and so Saints may be prepared to let him go for the right price.

Aston Villa, Fulham, Newcastle and Leicester have all spoken to the club about the potential for a deal as per TEAMtalk, but Liverpool and Arsenal would appear to be the most attractive propositions for the full-back unless he wants guaranteed first-team football.

The majority of Saints fans appear to support the decision to sell Targett given he has yet been unable to hold down a place in Southampton’s first XI.

But some others are fed up of the club’s players being cherry-picked by Liverpool in particular, as in recent years Liverpool have signed Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Virgil van Dijk.

Here is some of the reaction…

Arsenal Transfer Roundup: Interest in Jenkinson, Hungarian on radar, Nketiah to move on loan

[ad_pod ]

Today’s Arsenal transfer roundup includes an update on an English right-back, a potential bid for a Hungarian international and the sale of a veteran goalkeeper.

West Brom interested in Jenkinson

Sky Sports News is reporting that West Brom are in the race to sign right-back Carl Jenkinson. The 27-year-old played just eight games for the Emirates outfit last year and would like to play regular football. Celtic are also interested, but talks between the Gunners and the Baggies are reportedly already underway.

Szoboszlai bid being prepared

Arsenal are preparing a bid for Hungary’s Dominik Szoboszlai according to Football Insider. The club have reportedly been long-time admirers of the 18-year-old and are ready to make an offer for the RB Salzburg midfielder, who is valued at £9m.

Nketiah available for loan move

According to the Mirror, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is prepared to let youngster Eddie Nketiah spend next season out on loan to further his development. As it stands, Charlton Athletic looks to be the next destination for the Englishman.

West Ham United: Salomon Rondon bid should be increased

With Andy Carroll departing, Javier Hernandez linked away and an insider telling the Daily Star back in May that West Ham United were keen on three strikers, it does seem as if the forward line is due some work this summer.

Recent signing Pablo Fornals was described by former Hammer Dean Ashton as a ‘striker’s dream’ so perhaps the club now need a dynamic frontman to thrive. With that in mind and according to the Daily Star, Manuel Pellegrini’s side recently had a bid rejected for Salomon Rondon, who, in our minds, would be the perfect target man.

Looking back at his terrific work in saving Newcastle United from relegation last season, he netted 11 goals and assisted 7 (stats from Transfermarkt), contributing towards almost half of the Magpies’ 42 top-flight goals. Hailed by Jermaine Jenas in May (via HITC), for his positional sense and ability to integrate his team-mates, it’s clear that the Venezuelan can successfully lead a line in the Premier League.

Having worked with Manuel Pellegrini before at Malaga, for whom he bagged 24 goals in 65 games, it does appear to be a natural fit, so it’s not hard to argue that West Ham should up their offer.

Rondon could replace the physical threat Andy Carroll (when fit, of course) had, as well as acting as a target man for the likes of Fornals and Felipe Anderson as he did for Ayoze Perez and Miguel Almiron last season.

In terms of the physical threat, the West Brom ace won 4.6 aerial duels per 90 mins of action last season (via WhoScored) which actually beats Carroll’s 3.8 average and Perez even talked up his ability to assist others when talking to the Chronicle about his former teammate in May.

“If he gets the chance to give me a goal, he’ll do it”, said the Spaniard.

Only Marko Arnautovic and the aforementioned Anderson hit double figures last season, after all, so there is certainly scope for an improvement in the striking department. Whether it be through bagging goals himself or setting up strikes for others, Rondon looks as if he could bring that.

Simply put, West Ham should up their reported offer.

Bielsa’s history may help Leeds land Tashan Oakley-Boothe

[ad_pod ]

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Leeds United are one of many teams looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe this summer.

Swansea are seemingly the front-runners for his signature as their new boss worked with him at England U17 level, winning the World Cup together, but Marcelo Bielsa’s history may help the Whites gain an edge in this deal.

What’s the story?

The 19-year-old is in high demand this summer as The Daily Mail’s report lists Swansea, Reading, Huddersfield, Derby and Stoke as teams that will rival Leeds for his signature.

The teenager has bags of potential as he was nominated for the European Golden Boy award alongside the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Bielsa’s history

The Argentine’s relationship with Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino may mean that he gets first dibs on the youngster if he is set to leave the London club this summer.

Poch and Bielsa have already done business together this summer. Jack Clarke left Elland Road for an initial £10m fee before he was immediately returned to the Whites on loan for the season.

It’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that the Spurs manager would be willing to help out the man who he once described in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport (via SportWitness) as his “second father”.

The fact that Leeds and Spurs have already done business this summer bodes well for the Yorkshire club’s chances of signing Oakley-Boothe, but it may be Bielsa’s close relationship with the man in charge of the north London outfit which gives the Whites the ultimate edge when trying to secure his signature.

Panini Tabloid Sticker Pack – Manchester United fan Aaron Cikaya gets Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura single-handedly dragged Tottenham Hotspur to the Champions League final, but unfortunately found himself on the bench for the showdown in Madrid.

It seemed like a ridiculously harsh decision considering how influential he was in the club’s journey to Madrid, but the return of Harry Kane saw him miss out.

Aaron Cikaya, who can be seen in the video above filling out his Panini Tabloid, says the decision to leave him on the bench for the Champions League Final was difficult to comprehend.

Check out Aaron’s thoughts on Moura’s omission, in full, in the video above.

Juventus boss Sarri keen to sign Trippier from Spurs

[ad_pod ]

New Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri is interested in signing Kieran Trippier from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Corriere dello Sport.

What’s the word?

The former Chelsea boss has taken over in Turin as Juve look to further their Serie A dominance.

Joao Cancelo, the club’s current right-back, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer and the latest Corriere report claims that Juve are putting the groundwork in place to be able to replace the 25-year-old.

Sarri, who worked in the Premier League this season, is said to “appreciate” Trippier, who endured a difficult season at Spurs and actually scored an own goal against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen, however, if the Italian giants can pip Napoli to his signature, with their Serie A rivals also believed to be interested in acquiring the 28-year-old.

A bidding war

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy should be delighted at this news.

If both Italian clubs are serious about securing Trippier’s signature, it can mean only one thing: a bidding war.

The England international is absolutely expendable to Spurs – reports claim that Max Aarons, the teenage Norwich City full-back, has already been lined up as a replacement – and now it is purely about extracting the highest possible fee.

If both Italian clubs are attempting to get a deal done, that will only strengthen Levy’s hand and increase the chances of Spurs pocketing a huge amount for a player who has struggled throughout the campaign.

Juve and Napoli, then, may be walking directly into a trap.
